Not like all the others
rather she’s spiny and often prickly
perhaps seeming strange in appearance
Small, waxy leaves
catching each precious droplet of water
before it evaporates from the harsh desert sun
Shallow, widespread roots
quickly absorbing the rainfall
savoring each quenching sip as if it’s her last
Spectacular, vibrant colors
bursting forth in full majesty
showering the desert floor in a superbloom
It only takes a little water
to awaken the desert from its slumber
but this beauty is short-lived and fragile
The desert flower is queen of adaptation
not only surviving but thriving in the harshest of conditions
while producing overwhelming beauty
Adapting, surviving, and blooming with little from others….
I am a desert flower
